School Sport Funding

At Boringdon Primary School, we are pleased to have been presented the Sports Mark Platinum Award awarded by the School Games for two consecutive years. The Sports Mark Award is a recognition and celebration of a school’s commitment in the development of competition across their school and into the community.

As a school, we believe that Physical Education (PE) is a crucial and highly valued subject within our curriculum. The PE curriculum ensures that all pupils leave Boringdon Primary School physically literate and with the knowledge, skills and motivation necessary to equip them for a healthy, active lifestyle and lifelong participation in physical activity and sport. This encourages pupils to strive within our learning values of self-motivation, thinking, resilience, independence, valued collaboration and emotional intelligence. We also believe that our innovative approach supplements the pupil’s concentration, attitude and academic achievement.

The successful sports provision has been funded by the Department for Educations (DfE) to ensure that primary schools improve the quality and breadth within the PE and sports provision.  Within the academic year of 2020/21, Boringdon Primary School has received £19,610 to encourage our sporting successes.

Boringdon Primary School has recently had great successes within the local area and the school community. Pupils have represented the school within a broad range of sports, including football, handball, swimming, dance, cheerleading, rugby, cross-country, athletics and cricket. Our most recent success was becoming city finalists in the 2019/20 handball cup. This would not be possible without the commitment of all members of the school and the local community. We offer a broad range of sporting activities and clubs at within and at the end of the school day for both KS1 and KS2. The opportunities include football, netball, unihoc, handball, rounders, gymnastics, Bike-ability, skiing and multi-sports.

Please see the below documents regarding our partnerships and how we spend our funding.

Our aim in Physical Education is to help the children learn more about their bodies through a programme of sporting fitness incorporating gymnastics, dance and games.

A full competitive sporting programme has been developed with children from all years encouraged to take part at whatever level they can. A positive social attitude towards team games is fostered enabling the children to understand the importance of team work and co-operation.

In the last school year many competitive games were played with over 240 children taking part. Competitive games played are football, netball, hockey, athletics, rounders, swimming, cricket and rugby.

Many sports activities and clubs take place at the end of the normal school day including cricket, football, netball, rounders, rugby, Ten Tors, cheerleading, gymnastics, Bikeability and skiing.

We also hold the Sports Mark Platinum Award.
