Sports Premium
School Sport Funding
Our Vision for PE and Sport
At Boringdon, we believe that Physical Education and physical activity are essential parts of a child’s education. We want every child to develop the knowledge, skills, confidence and positive experiences they need to be active throughout their lives.
Our PE and Sport Premium funding enables us to strengthen and sustain high-quality PE, physical activity and sporting opportunities across the school. We use the funding strategically to improve the quality of teaching, broaden participation, develop staff expertise and provide opportunities for children to experience different forms of physical activity and competition.
Our overarching aim is simple; We want children to leave Boringdon with the confidence and knowledge to be active for life. At Boringdon, sport is a way to Think, Feel, Move and Connect in a supportive and ambitious environment.
PE and Sport Premium Funding 2025–26
For the 2025–26 academic year, Boringdon Primary School received £19,340 in PE and Sport Premium funding.
We use this funding strategically to improve the quality of PE and physical activity across the school, ensuring that its impact reaches as many pupils as possible and supports sustainable improvements in teaching, participation and physical activity.
Our spending is focused on:
- Developing staff expertise and confidence in teaching high-quality PE
- Providing a broad and inclusive range of sporting opportunities
- Increasing participation in physical activity, clubs and competitions
- Supporting less-active pupils to become more engaged in physical activity
- Developing leadership opportunities through our Year 6 Sports Leaders
- Providing opportunities for competition, teamwork and personal achievement
- Supporting active lifestyles beyond PE including active travel and lunchtime physical activity
- Working with specialist partners, including the Plymouth School Sport Partnership, to strengthen the quality and sustainability of our provision
We evaluate the impact of our spending through pupil participation, PE assessment, pupil voice, staff confidence, club and competition engagement, swimming outcomes and the wider physical activity opportunities available to our children.
Our aim is to ensure that investment in PE and Sport Premium creates lasting improvements in provision, rather than simply funding individual events or activities.
We want children to leave Boringdon with the confidence and knowledge to be active for life.
How We Use PE and Sport Premium
We use our funding to support high-quality provision across three key areas:
1. Developing the quality of PE teaching
We work closely with the Plymouth School Sport Partnership (PSSP) to develop teacher subject knowledge and confidence.
PSSP provides targeted support within PE lessons, working alongside teachers to model high-quality teaching, develop understanding of progression and provide resources and planning. This approach ensures that investment in specialist support has a lasting impact on the quality of PE teaching across the school.
Our PE curriculum is underpinned by the Oak Academy PE curriculum from Years 1–6, providing clear progression, learning outcomes and assessment opportunities. Our EYFS provision is supported through Arena PE planning and specialist expertise.
We want our teachers to feel confident teaching PE independently and to have the knowledge and resources to continue providing high-quality learning beyond the period of specialist support.
2. Increasing participation and opportunities
We believe that there should be a place in sport for everyone.
PE and Sport Premium funding helps us provide a broad range of opportunities so that children can discover activities they enjoy and develop interests that may continue beyond primary school.
Across the school, children have opportunities to participate a wide range in sports and activies including, but not excluded to:
- Dance and gymnastics
- Athletics and running
- Football and tag rugby
- Boccia and inclusive sport
- Hockey and handball
- Net and wall games
- Striking and fielding activities
- Outdoor Adventurous Activities
- Cheerleading
- Ultimate frisbee
- Active travel and cycling opportunities
We provide before- and after-school clubs alongside lunchtime opportunities. We particularly consider pupils who may be less active or who may benefit from additional opportunities when allocating places.
Our aim is not simply to increase the number of children taking part in sport. We want children to find something they enjoy, feel successful and develop the confidence to continue being active.
3. Competition, teamwork and personal achievement
Competition is an important part of PE at Boringdon. We believe healthy competition can help children develop resilience, determination, teamwork and sportsmanship. At the same time, competition must be balanced with meaningful opportunities for participation and personal achievement.
Through our partnership with PSSP and our own inter-house programme, children experience a range of competitive and inclusive events.
These include opportunities such as:
- Football
- Tag rugby
- Athletics
- Dance and cheerleading
- Boccia
- Inclusive football
- Archery
- Gymnastics
- Outdoor Adventurous Activities
- Cross-country and running events
- Inter-school festivals and competitions
We celebrate participation, progress and personal achievement, rather than focusing solely on results.
Developing Active Children Beyond PE
PE is only one part of developing a healthy, active lifestyle. We use PE and Sport Premium funding to support opportunities for children to be active throughout the school day and to develop positive habits that extend beyond the PE lesson.
Our wider physical activity provision includes:
- Active lunchtime activities
- Sports Leader-led activities
- Playground equipment and active play opportunities
- Big Walk and Wheel
- Dr Bike sessions
- Bikeability
- Cycling and active travel opportunities
- Running opportunities and challenges
- Sporting events and festivals
- Links with local sports organisations and clubs
We want children to understand that being active is not something that only happens during PE.
At Boringdon, being active is a way of life and a tool for life.
Sports Leaders
Our Year 6 Sports Leaders play an important role in creating an active and inclusive school.
Sports Leaders apply for their roles and are selected based on their application and their commitment to our school values, including being kind, respectful and doing their best.
They help to:
- Organise and lead playground activities
- Encourage participation and inclusion
- Promote teamwork, respect and sportsmanship
- Prepare and organise PE equipment
- Support lunchtime and after-school clubs
- Support Sports Day and other sporting events
- Encourage younger pupils to enjoy being active
We also ensure that children who need additional support to apply for the role are supported through the process to ensure that the role is inclusive of all.
Being a Sports Leader provides children with valuable opportunities to develop leadership, responsibility, communication and confidence.
Inclusion: A Place for Everyone
Our PE and Sport Premium provision is designed to ensure that all children can access meaningful opportunities to be active.
We adapt and scaffold PE so that every child can access, participate and succeed. We maintain high expectations while providing the appropriate support and challenge for individual pupils.
We also use our provision to identify pupils who may be less active or who may need additional opportunities to develop confidence and engagement in physical activity.
Our approach is not about lowering expectations. It is about providing the right support and opportunities so that every child can thrive.
There is a place in sport for everyone.
Swimming
Swimming is an important part of our physical education provision.
Year 4 pupils attend Plympton Pool, where they are taught by specialist swimming teachers.
Pupils are assessed against national expectations, including their ability to:
- Swim 25 metres confidently
- Use a range of swimming strokes
- Demonstrate water safety
- Perform self-rescue
Our aim is for children to leave primary school with important water confidence and safety skills alongside their wider physical education.
Sports Day and Wellbeing Week
Our Sports Day and Wellbeing Week is designed around participation, teamwork and inclusion.
We want every child to contribute, feel valued and experience the excitement of being part of a team. While individual performance is celebrated, the emphasis is on working together, supporting others and engaging positively in physical activity.
Sports Day and Wellbeing Week reflects our wider PE philosophy: Think. Feel. Move. Connect.
Measuring Impact
We monitor the impact of our PE and Sport Premium spending through a combination of participation, pupil voice, assessment and staff development.
We consider:
- The quality and consistency of PE teaching
- Staff confidence and subject knowledge
- Pupil participation in PE and physical activity
- Participation in clubs and competitions
- Opportunities for less-active pupils
- Progress in PE
- Pupil confidence and enjoyment
- Participation in inter-house and inter-school events
- Swimming outcomes
- The sustainability of improvements made through specialist support
Our PE assessment system enables us to identify pupils who are not yet meeting age-related expectations and pupils who may be less active. This allows us to target additional support and opportunities where they will have the greatest impact.
Our Impact
The impact of our PE and Sport Premium investment is seen not simply in competition results, but in the wider development of our children.
We want pupils to become:
Active – developing the knowledge and physical competence to move confidently.
Confident – willing to try, practise, challenge themselves and experience success.
Resilient – learning how to respond positively to challenge, setbacks and competition.
Connected – communicating, cooperating and celebrating the strengths and achievements of others.
Knowledgeable – understanding how physical activity supports their physical and mental wellbeing and knowing how they can stay active beyond primary school.
Ultimately, we want every child to leave Boringdon knowing that physical activity is for them.
Our Aim
We want children to leave Boringdon with the confidence and knowledge to be active for life.
Think. Feel. Move. Connect.
Active children. Confident learners. Lifelong participants.
