Pupil Premium

Boringdon Pupil Premium in 2026-27

Pupil Premium is additional government funding provided to schools to improve educational outcomes for disadvantaged pupils. Its purpose is to help schools remove barriers to learning, accelerate progress and reduce differences in attainment between disadvantaged pupils and their peers.

At Boringdon Primary School, we are committed to ensuring that every child feels that they belong, participates fully in school life and has the opportunity to achieve their potential. We use Pupil Premium funding carefully to respond to the identified needs of our pupils and to support their academic achievement, attendance, wellbeing and personal development.

Our approach prioritises:

  • high-quality teaching for every pupil;
  • targeted academic support where additional help is needed; and
  • wider strategies that address barriers relating to attendance, wellbeing, readiness to learn and participation in school life.

Our decisions are informed by evidence. Support may benefit individual pupils, groups of pupils or the wider school where there is clear evidence that the approach will particularly benefit disadvantaged children. Pupil Premium is not a personal budget allocated separately to each eligible pupil.

Our full Pupil Premium Strategy Statement explains the challenges we have identified, the outcomes we aim to achieve, how we intend to use the funding and how we evaluate its impact. Boringdon’s current three-year strategy covers 2026 to 2029, with an updated statement for the 2026–27 academic year.

Could your child be eligible?

Schools receive Pupil Premium funding for children who meet particular eligibility criteria, including some pupils who:

  • are eligible for income-related Free School Meals or have been eligible during the relevant previous period;
  • are looked after by a local authority;
  • were previously looked after and meet the relevant criteria; or
  • have a parent serving in the regular armed forces or meet other Service Pupil Premium criteria.

Service Pupil Premium is intended mainly to help schools provide pastoral support for eligible service children.

How do I tell the school or apply?

Free School Meals

If you think your child may be eligible for income-related Free School Meals, please contact the school and apply through Plymouth City Council. Applying online is the quickest way to receive a decision.

Apply for Free School Meals through Plymouth City Council

We encourage eligible families to apply, even if their child already receives a meal through another entitlement, because eligible registrations may help the school receive additional funding to support children’s education.

Service children

Please tell the school if a parent is serving in the regular armed forces. This can be recorded when your child joins Boringdon or updated by contacting the school office.

Looked-after or previously looked-after children

Please provide the relevant information when your child joins the school or contact us directly. Any information shared will be handled sensitively.
