The management of the school is the responsibility of the school governors who are nominated or elected to serve a four year term of office. The day to day management of the school is the responsibility of the Headteacher or their nominees when absent. The school benefits from the fact that the governors are either parent governors or have long links with the school. Currently the Local Advisory Board has twelve members who meet termly to monitor the smooth running of the school, to decide matters of policy and to ensure Government and L.A. requirements are met.
Update from the Chair of Governors

Dear Parents and Carers,

Welcome back to the new academic year at Boringdon Primary School and a special welcome to all new Reception parents and children!

I am hoping that everyone had a lovely Summer break and was able to enjoy the warm weather we had.

At the end of the Summer Term, we received theresults of the children’s SATS. Unfortunately, therewas not enough time to summarise those results prior to the summer holiday, but I wish to share these with you now.

By way of brief explanation, under “Assessment Without Levels” a score of 100 indicating achievement of the “required levels”. We have no “League Tables” or cross City comparatives yet butwe can summarise the results and make an educated comment at the end :-

  • 95% of pupils achieved the expected standard in Reading. 20% achieved a high standard. The average scaled score in reading was 107.

  •  92% of pupils achieved the expected standard in writing. 28% of pupils were working at a greater depth. There is no average scale score for writing.

  • 95% of pupils achieved the expected standard in Grammar, Punctuation and Spelling. 45% achieved a high standard. The average scaled score in Grammar, Punctuation and Spelling was 109.

  • 95% of pupils achieved the expected standard in Maths. 17% achieved the high standard. The average scaled score was 106.

  • 87% of the pupils achieved the expected standard in reading, writing and maths. This compares to the national figure of 64%!

As has been the case for many years now, the results were, we feel, excellent. This means Boringdon remains one of the top primary schools for academic achievement in the south west. On behalf of the governing body, I would like to thank the staff for allof their hard work. To maintain the school’sacademic achievement, year after year, is an amazing achievement.

At this time, I would also like to thank you, the parents & carers along with the children. Without the support of parents and carers the children would not get the support they need. The children have once again worked extremely hard and are a credit to both their families and the school.

Away from the academic side of the school, I would like to comment on the other elements that go to making a child’s school experience balanced and happy – clubs and extra-curricular activities. If your child is not yet involved with one of the many extra- curricular activities on offer, please have a look at the website and see what is available.

During this year the governing body will be hard at work behind the scenes. Following our self- evaluation at the end of last term, it is clear that the governing body has a wide range of skills and expertise which means we are well equipped to support the school to ensure the children at Boringdon Primary receive an outstanding education.

From 1stOctober, John Agnew, Vice Chair will be leaving the governing body in order to focus on other areas – including his role as the Chair of the Plym Academy Trust. John has been a part of the governing body for many years, not least spending eight years as Chair. Along with my fellow governors, I would like to thank John for the dedication and support he has shown the school over such a length of time.

All that remains is to wish everyone a happy 2018/2019 academic year.
Thank you,
Emma Newman

I have been involved within the education sector over the last 15 years, initially as a secondary Maths teacher, within the Local Authority, and more recently working with students who have disabilities at Plymouth University. Consequently, education, learning and providing opportunities for all young people to reach their full potential is at the heart of my work. The nurturing ethos and commitment of the staff at Boringdon Primary School was a key reason for me recently joining the Local Advisory Board and I look forward to offering my support to the school.

I am a proud parent to a daughter currently in year 6 at Boringdon School. I have witnessed her thrive throughout her time at this excellent school, with its enthusiastic and talented teachers, teaching assistants and staff. These high standards can only be maintained through the hard work of these staff and the support they receive from all concerned with the school. I am committed to assisting the school through my role as a Governor, aiding the maintenance of its already high standards now and for the future. I am a Warrant Officer in the Royal Air Force,  where I have worked as an Environmental Health technician for over 22 years. This has given me a wide range of experience in challenging and rewarding environments, hopefully providing me with many appropriate transferable skills to my role as a Governor.

I am currently Vice Principal at Plympton Academy, having joined in September 2016 from Marine Academy Plymouth where I also served as Vice Principal for just over two years.  I started my teaching career at Saltash.Net Community School as an English teacher and then Advanced Skills Teacher, before being appointed Head of English and Assistant Headteacher. Prior to teaching, I worked in tax litigation for PricewaterhouseCoopers in Bristol then London, having studied Law at the University of Birmingham.
I have two children, one in Year 7 at Saltash.Net Community School and the youngest in Year 4 at Burraton Primary School. My experiences as a parent have increasingly informed my role as a school leader and Governor.  I am committed, through my teaching and Governor role, to ensuring young people in Plympton continue to have the best possible opportunities to thrive and be successful.

I am an HLTA here at Boringdon. I've worked here for over 20 years in both Key Stages but am currently working in Year 3. My four daughters have all gone through the school so I feel like I know the school from both sides of the fence - as a parent and a member of staff. I have been a governor for nearly nine years.

I have lived in Plympton for a large part of my life and am passionate about giving all local children the best start possible to their education.  It is my belief that children need to feel safe and happy in order to learn.    My career has been mainly in education; I have worked as a primary teacher for over 15 years and my current role involves working as a Special Educational Needs Co-coordinator within a Devon School. I have previously been School Governor at my place of work, and am proud reprise this role at Boringdon. I feel privileged to be in a position where I can help the school deliver an outstanding education for all of our children.

I am a former pupil of Boringdon Primary School (having left in 2005) and have lived locally all my life.

I was a Project Manager for four years, working closely with Local Authorities during a challenging period where budgets were being cut on an annual basis. I am currently working as a Product Manager for The Key. The Key is an industry-leading support service for School Leaders and School Governors.  Working alongside senior leaders and governors teaches you a lot so I decided to join the LAB to try and make a positive contribution to the school and ease some of the pressure on its leaders.

The products I manage at The Key are related to CPD and Safeguarding so I am hoping to use my experience and knowledge in those areas to benefit Boringdon Primary School.

I am the proud mum to four children, my eldest son is now 15 and after successfully attending Boringdon has now moved onto Hele's School.  My  younger children are currently in years 8, 6 and 3.  I work as the Finance Manager for my husband's company.  I am the Chairperson of the Friends Group, a role I have been enjoying since 2014 and I became a Co-opted member of the LAB and have happily taken on the role of governor for Science. I have over the years observed the dedication and enthusiasm of the teaching staff throughout the whole school and enjoy being able to volunteer a little of my time to hopefully help to enhance every child's experience and memories of their time at Boringdon.

I am a mum of two, my eldest has recently started in Reception at Boringdon Primary, and I have lived in Plympton for over 3 years.  I am a Chartered Building Surveyor and Project Manager with experience of maintenance and projects in relation to all buildings, including schools, and I hope to be able to use my experience in this area to help the school.  I am also keen to promote STEM (science, technology, maths and engineering) subjects to children, but particularly to encourage our young women into careers that they may not have considered.  I am a keen runner and I believe that all children should be encouraged to be as active as they can in today's world of technology.

I am a former pupil of Boringdon, my father was a governor and my daughter is now in Reception.  My son will start in a few years.  I therefore have a long-term vested interest in the school and supporting the high standards that we all benefit from as parents, staff and pupils of this friendly and successful school.

I am a Civil Litigation lawyer and hope to provide support and encourage development of the school for the benefit of all.
