The management of the school is the responsibility of the school governors who are nominated or elected to serve a four year term of office. The day to day management of the school is the responsibility of the Headteacher or their nominees when absent. The school benefits from the fact that the governors are either parent governors or have long links with the school. Currently the Local Advisory Board has twelve members who meet termly to monitor the smooth running of the school, to decide matters of policy and to ensure Government and L.A. requirements are met.
Update from the Chair of Governors

Dear Parents and Carers,

On behalf of the Local advisory Board, I would like to take this opportunity to welcome you to Boringdon Primary School.

As a governing body, we are proud of our children and staff and are grateful for the support shown by the parents and carers. The school community as a whole works together in a co-operative partnership, with our core value of educating the children in a safe and happy environment underpinning everything that we do.

The main role of the governing body is to ensure the schools statutory obligations are met in addition to reviewing and monitoring objectives, planning for the future, and to ensure that the vision for the school is maintained with strategic direction for the improvement of the school. The governing body works hard to support the staff and pupils with the aim of ensuring that Boringdon continues to maintain its high academic standards and enables the pupils to realise their full potential in all areas of their development.

All of our governors bring with them a range of skills and expertise to enhance the leadership and management of the school. Decisions are taken by the whole governing body on issues including finance, safeguarding, premises management and staff appointments. The governing body meets once every half term for a formal meeting, and more frequently to attend school events and observe the children within the school environment and I would like to thank all the governors for the time and effort they put into this role. Governors are appointed with their skill set in mind however we all attend regular training and professional development to ensure that we are fulfilling our roles to the best of our ability and providing the school with the support that it deserves.

We are extremely grateful for the role that parents and carers at Boringdon play in supporting the children and through the fundraising activities of FOB.

If you would like to find out more about the governors, please visit the governors section of the school website.  We also provide regular updates in the school newsletters and are available to speak with at many school events.

As a qualified Financial Adviser and Chartered Accountant, I have worked in Industry and in large Accountancy Practice and, since 2003, I have run my own business as a local Financial Adviser in Plympton.

In 2007, I became a Governor at Boringdon with the prospect of 3 young children due to pass through the School gates. By 2018, all three had moved on to Secondary Schools after very successful and enjoyable periods at Boringdon.

I have acted in the role of Chair of the Boringdon Local Governing body from 2009 to 2018 and chair of the Plym Academy Trust, of which Boringdon is a founder member, from its inception. Having briefly left the Boringdon Governing Body in mid 2018, I have recently returned to help the School move towards further successes under the Westcountry Schools Trust who we expect to join in September.

I am a proud parent to a daughter currently in year 6 at Boringdon School. I have witnessed her thrive throughout her time at this excellent school, with its enthusiastic and talented teachers, teaching assistants and staff. These high standards can only be maintained through the hard work of these staff and the support they receive from all concerned with the school. I am committed to assisting the school through my role as a Governor, aiding the maintenance of its already high standards now and for the future. I am a Warrant Officer in the Royal Air Force,  where I have worked as an Environmental Health technician for over 22 years. This has given me a wide range of experience in challenging and rewarding environments, hopefully providing me with many appropriate transferable skills to my role as a Governor.

I am currently Vice Principal at Plympton Academy, having joined in September 2016 from Marine Academy Plymouth where I also served as Vice Principal for just over two years.  I started my teaching career at Saltash.Net Community School as an English teacher and then Advanced Skills Teacher, before being appointed Head of English and Assistant Headteacher. Prior to teaching, I worked in tax litigation for PricewaterhouseCoopers in Bristol then London, having studied Law at the University of Birmingham.
I have two children, one in Year 7 at Saltash.Net Community School and the youngest in Year 4 at Burraton Primary School. My experiences as a parent have increasingly informed my role as a school leader and Governor.  I am committed, through my teaching and Governor role, to ensuring young people in Plympton continue to have the best possible opportunities to thrive and be successful.

I am a former pupil of Boringdon Primary School (having left in 2005) and have lived locally all my life. I was a Project Manager for four years, working closely with Local Authorities during a challenging period where budgets were being cut on an annual basis. I am currently working as a Product Manager for The Key. The Key is an industry-leading support service for School Leaders and School Governors.  Working alongside senior leaders and governors teaches you a lot so I decided to join the LAB to try and make a positive contribution to the school and ease some of the pressure on its leaders.

The products I manage at The Key are related to CPD and Safeguarding so I am hoping to use my experience and knowledge in those areas to benefit Boringdon Primary School.

I am the proud mum to four children, my eldest 2 children are now 16 and 13 and after successfully attending Boringdon they have now moved onto Hele's School.  My  younger children are currently in years 6 and 3.  I work as the Finance Manager for my husband's company.  I am the Chairperson of the Friends Group, a role I have been enjoying since 2014. I became a Co-opted member of the LAB in 2016 and have happily taken on the role of governor for science and computing. I have over the years observed the dedication and enthusiasm of the teaching staff throughout the whole school and enjoy being able to volunteer a little of my time to hopefully help to enhance every child's experience and memories of their time at Boringdon.

I have been a governor at Boringdon Primary School since 2016 and have recently been appointed the role of Chair.  I am an Employment and Education Solicitor and aim to use my expertise to support and guide the school in its development.  I am dedicated to ensuring that the best interests of our children are at the heart of every decision that has to be made and providing support and guidance to help the school maintain it’s high standards.

I am a former pupil of Boringdon, my father was a governor and I now have my own children at the school.  I therefore have a historical and long-term vested interest in the school and supporting the high standards that we all benefit from as parents, staff and pupils of this friendly and successful school.

I am also the Early Years link governor and strongly believe that we are very lucky, as parents, to have such a strong Early Years team to give our children the best start to their education.  I hope to assist the Early Years team with any support that they require in their development.
