Artsmark Gold Award

In November 2013, Boringdon Primary School was awarded Artsmark Gold for a second time, demonstrating our continuing commitment to learning through the Arts:
  • ART
  • MUSIC
  • DANCE
  • DRAMA
Artsmark is Arts Council England’s flagship programme to enable schools and other organisations to evaluate, strengthen and celebrate their arts and cultural provision.

In 2014, only 14% of Schools in the South West of England held Artsmark status and just 9% of schools in Plymouth held Artsmark Gold which delivered by Trinity College London.

Achieving Artsmark Gold status proves that our school has a number of very special qualities:It demonstrates that we have an excellent range of arts and cultural diversity including art, music, drama and dance. Furthermore, we are forward thinking and open to development, committed to listening to our students and providing opportunities for our community, whilst valuing the arts and culture through our broad and exciting curriculum.

To achieve Artsmark Gold, we had to undergo a rigorous application process, followed by a validation visit from a professional arts consultant. We were assessed on many areas of our provision, including arts in the curriculum, extra-curricular arts activities, how we work with artists and arts organisations and finally, how well our arts provision impacts on staff development and the wider community.

Boringdon Primary School is also an Arts Award Centre enabling children to achieve their Arts Award: 'Discover (introductory level) and 'Explore' (Entry Level 3 qualification on the Regulated Qualifications Framework). To achieve their Arts Award young people take on challenges in an art form, participate in arts activities, experience arts events, get inspired by artists and share their arts skills with others. Young people create a portfolio to keep a record of their creative journey. Along the way they are supported by a trained Arts Award adviser, acting as assessor, facilitator and mentor.

We know that you share our pride in being nationally recognised for our arts and cultural provision. We would like to take this opportunity to thank all our staff, our partners, parents, carers and children in making this possible.
